Introduction to Oil Painting Class Series
Dates: Mondays | 1.13 | 1.20 | 1.27 | 2.3 | 2.10
Times: 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Description: Get started with oil paints, starting at the building blocks: materials. In this series we'll get acquainted with the materials and methods and focus on understanding the basics of working with the medium. Through five sessions students will work with palette work, solvents and mediums, beginning with priming surfaces, the value of underdrawing, grisaille and expanding their color choices into a working palette to lead to a final abstract piece with a primary focus on texture and palette knife skills. This class is introductory and prepares students for future composition without the worry of brushwork. Set of beginner's oil paints and starters supply of solvent and mediums included with class fee, including all surfaces.
Students should bring their own apron or wear clothes suitable to studio work and bring gloves if they prefer to use them. We will be using a citrus based solvent in this series, so this is not suitable for those with sensitivities or allergies to citrus.
